We just got back from our five-day Caribbean cruise with our kids and it was amazing.  This was our very first family cruise and it couldn’t have gone any better.  Although I was a little worried and nervous about cruising with my toddler and preschooler, it was a very enjoyable vacation.  My kids are five and two, they had a blast on the cruise.  It took a lot of time planning what to pack for the kids, I wanted to make sure that I had everything I needed or could possibly need.  I thought it would be helpful to create a cruise packing list for toddler. Here are some items that I brought on my cruise that were beneficial.

  • At least two outfits per day, a combination of shorts, jeans/leggings, tanks, and long sleeve shirts.  Along with a few dressy outfits, they have picture opportunities throughout the ship.  Most cruises have formal nights, the one we were on had pirate night so I made sure to pack a pirate outfit for my kids.
  • Pack at least three pairs of underwear per day for your toddler.  If your toddler wears diapers, pack plenty of extra diapers, wipes, and water diapers.  You also have the option for reusable water diapers, I used them a lot last summer.
  • Wipes.  When traveling with a toddler wipes are always a must.  I highly recommend these Dr. Brown’s wipes, they are super gentle on toddler’s nose.  Great for their hands and faces too.
  • A light sweater, it gets chilly on the ship and the evenings get cool.
  • A few swimsuits, I packed four for each of my little ones.  There are plenty of opportunities to go to the beach or pool throughout the cruise.  It’s also nice for them to put on a dry swimsuit each time they decide to get in the water.
  • Comfortable sandals, sneakers, and water shoes.
  • Kids mini first aid kit that has antibiotic cream, bandages, aloe gel, and medication.
  • Snack container.  This is a must for flying with kids as well.  Dr. Brown’s has some great products that make traveling with a toddler so much easier.  I like to use these reusable snack bags and fill them with fruit or crackers.  Another option is using these snack cups.  It comes with individual cups you can stack up, I have two little ones, so it’s perfect to use because they each get their own cup.
  • A leak-free sippy cup.  You can refill as needed and is convenient to have on hand, especially on port days.  I love using Dr. Brown’s Straw cups because they’re perfect for on the go.  The lid locks and keeps the straw clean.
  • Toys so your toddler can play in the stateroom with and during meal time.
  • Optional, a light weight stroller or baby carrier.  We didn’t use one, my toddler did get tired but my husband and I took turns carrying him.  However, my close friend who traveled with us used her stroller daily.
  • Sunscreen, baby lotion, baby body wash, baby shampoo, toothbrush, baby toothpaste, and diaper cream.  I’ve been lucky that my kids have been great about wanting to brush their teeth.  While they do have most of these items accessible in your stateroom, I prefer to take my own.  My toddler loves his Dr. Brown’s toothbrush, it’s made with a grip that makes it easy for him to help clean his little teeth.  You can buy the Dr. Brown’s toothbrush and toothpaste combo, it’s small and perfect for travel.
